Dr. Naomi Rothfield, who retired March 3, 2016 after nearly 50 years at UConn, is a trailblazer in the field of medicine. Rothfield joined the founding faculty of the University of Connecticut School of Medicine in 1968 as a young rheumatologist, and over the past five decades has made groundbreaking contributions to her field as a doctor and researcher. She has taught generations of medical students since she arrived and led UConn’s Division of Rheumatologic Diseases from 1973 to 1999, training dozens of the world’s leading rheumatologists.
